MGMC explores timeless themes of nature, primitive psychology, love, coming of age, sexuality, and knowing where the best make-out places are. These modern-day Troubadours cleverly exploit Shakespeare and Boy Bands to reinvent the Renaissance.

“Much Ado About Nothing But Love” is a new work created for the Chorus by MGMC's own composer-in-residence Tom Wallace and off-the-cuff-writer Molly Bogue. Michael Howard of Westbrook's Naked Shakespeare is providing his characteristically inventive and inspiring stage direction. The result is fast-paced, hilarious and totally irreverent.

Wallace’s ingenious musical adaptations are based on songs performed in London’s Globe Theater as part of ten of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. Bogue's inspired story weaves together an eclectic set of songs using the Bard's own words and features his characters: several sets of lovers, superbly sinister witches, evil elves and fairies, a careless Cupid, and a dreamy sprite unknowingly popular with young lovers.

To bridge the gap between the Bards and the Boy Bands, Wallace and Bogue have also teamed up to write "A Midnight Pillow", a love song of deep longing with lush lyrics in Shakespearean English and a mellow rock beat. The response of audiences to the Chorus' Boy Band repertoire has been categorically positive. People have broken into song spontaneously; some felt so moved as to dance in church! When popular songs from Backstreet Boys and 'NSync are performed as part of "Bards and Boy Bands", a group of highly trained, inspiring instrumentalists (including Tim Bate on keys, Kelly Muse on guitar, Kim Bird on bass, and Noel Brennan on percussion) will only add more great energy to the experience.

Our special guest Women In Harmony, Portland’s premier women’s chorus, will perform "Fairies' Song" from "A Midsummer Night's Dream". In addition, songs by Joni Mitchell and from "The Sound of Music" will appeal simultaneously to the child within and to the adult in touch with the meaning of life.

At the end of the concert, you will delight in the rich result of these two vibrant choruses on stage together for the first time in history. This is Maine Pride at its best!
